We provide one-on-one conflict coaching to individuals who are struggling to resolve or move on from a conflict situation or conflict-ridden relationship. Coaching works to assist the participant to understand and then develop options to resolve the conflict and in doing so, develop increased conflict capability.
The conflict may already have moved into the public domain or the participant may want to work through the issues in order to avoid the conflict ‘blowing up’. Or it might be that the coachee is unable to address the conflict directly with the other person or group (for example because they are an external business partner or more senior member of the organisation).
Conflict coaching can be an effective alternative to mediation, as preparation for mediation, or a follow-up post-mediation to reinforce and support the behaviour changes needed to ensure the conflict stays in the past.
The coaching process is always voluntary and confidential, although it may be that coaching is part of an overall package of measures the organisation has put in place.
Its strength lies in its ability to move the participant from seeing the conflict as a right/wrong situation to one of understanding the other person’s/group’s point of view without having to agree with that point of view. From there it is possible to develop options which meet the needs of both sides and move the relationship onto more positive ground.
